Airbus Partners with Airlines, Investors to Launch $200 Million Fund to Accelerate SAF Production
Airbus has joined as an anchor investor in the $200 million Sustainable Aviation Fuel Financing Alliance (SAFFA) investment fund to boost SAF production. The fund includes investors such as Air France-KLM, BNP Paribas, and Qantas Airways. It targets mature SAF technologies, particularly waste-based feedstocks, and aims to repurpose existing infrastructure. The first investment is in Crysalis Biosciences, which will produce low-carbon SAF at the Monarch facility in Illinois. Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson highlighted the need for industry partnerships to address the high cost and limited supply of SAF, crucial for decarbonizing aviation.
