Gevo Secures $1.46 Billion DOE Loan for World’s First Net-Zero Aviation Fuel Plant

Gevo, Inc. has secured a $1.46 billion loan commitment from the U.S. Department of Energy for its Net-Zero 1 (NZ1) project in South Dakota, aimed at building the world’s first large-scale net-zero-emissions alcohol-to-jet production facility. The NZ1 is set to produce around 60 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel annually, along with animal feed and corn oil, using entirely U.S.-sourced feedstocks. The project will create over 1,300 indirect jobs and 100 permanent positions, generating an annual economic impact exceeding $100 million. Gevo’s CEO highlights the project’s potential to transform the aviation industry and enhance rural economic development, with future loan disbursements dependent on meeting specific conditions.
