GenZero, Trafigura Commit US$100M to Expand Nature-Based Carbon Removal Project in Colombia
Trafigura Group and GenZero have jointly committed over $100 million to expand the Brújula Verde landscape restoration project in Colombia, aiming to double its scale and production of carbon removal credits through afforestation and reforestation. The project, which focuses on restoring degraded land in the Orinoco River Basin, involves planting over 24 million trees and is expected to create over 700 jobs while benefiting local infrastructure. Utilizing advanced monitoring tools for carbon and biodiversity, Brújula Verde will issue its first carbon removal credits by late 2025, supporting both environmental restoration and community development. The collaboration highlights the role of nature-based solutions in addressing climate change and fostering sustainable growth.
