Climate Investment Funds Board Backs $500 Million Nature Plan for Ethiopia
The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) board has approved a $37 million plan, unlocking $492 million in co-financing from the African Development Bank and World Bank, to restore 322,276 hectares of degraded land and protect Ethiopia’s rural livelihoods and carbon-rich forests. The initiative focuses on sustainability through nature-based solutions, including carbon credits and non-timber forest products, while empowering women with climate-smart farming techniques, ecotourism opportunities, and leadership roles. With $4 million dedicated to community-led projects, the plan aims to combat land degradation, secure food systems, and enhance resilience in rural areas, aligning with Ethiopia’s ambitious landscape restoration goals.
