Coin Collection Programme

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced the new service schedule for its two “Coin Carts” under the Coin Collection Programme from 6 January to 23 March 2025. Since its launch in October 2014, the Programme has collected over 1 billion coins worth HK$1,598 million through 1,295,000 transactions. The Coin Carts operate across Hong Kong’s 18 districts, staying at each location for about a week, offering free coin collection services from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Users can exchange coins for banknotes, add value to stored-value facilities, or donate to charity. Environmentally friendly practices and public feedback guide the selection of service locations. The HKMA regularly reviews and updates the schedule to keep the public informed.
