SFC steps up anti-scam publicity with “Don’t be Sucker” campaign

The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) launched its “Don’t be Sucker” anti-scam campaign to raise public awareness of investment fraud, focusing on scams like online romance schemes, impersonation, and fake financial tips. Central to the campaign is Shui Yu (水魚), a cartoon symbolizing gullible investors, featured in ads, a rap song, and social media content. With over 3,400 online investment scams reported in early 2024, causing $2.2 billion in losses, the SFC aims to educate investors, especially younger audiences, through engaging activities, including an interactive booth at the Hong Kong Police’s Anti-Scam Carnival.
