Government welcomes passage of Companies (Amendment) (No.2) Bill 2024

On May 14, 2025, the Hong Kong Government welcomed the passage of the Companies (Amendment) (No.2) Bill 2024, which establishes a company re-domiciliation regime. This new mechanism allows non-Hong Kong companies that meet specific criteria to re-domicile to Hong Kong while maintaining their legal identity and ensuring business continuity. Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr. Christopher Hui, emphasized that the regime addresses the needs of companies with significant operations in Hong Kong, aiming to attract enterprises and investment, thereby fostering local professional services and creating job opportunities. The Amendment will take effect on May 23, with applications opening the same day, supported by enhancements to the Companies Registry Information System.
