Keynote Speech at Deloitte Financial Crime and Compliance Symposium – Cross World
In his keynote speech at the Deloitte Financial Crime and Compliance Symposium, Raymond Chan, Executive Director of Enforcement and AML at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, emphasized the urgent need to “reset” the financial ecosystem to combat the evolving challenges of digital criminality. He highlighted the importance of increased collaboration and information sharing between public and private sectors, the adoption of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (A.I.) to enhance transaction monitoring, and the necessity to recalibrate anti-money laundering (AML) regulations in response to emerging threats, particularly from cryptocurrencies. Chan noted significant progress in these areas, including a quadrupling of suspicious transaction reports and the introduction of legislative changes to facilitate better information sharing among banks. He expressed confidence that with continued efforts, stakeholders can successfully adapt to the digital landscape and improve the effectiveness of financial crime prevention measures.
