Composite Interest Rate: End of April 2025
On May 19, 2025, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) reported that the composite interest rate at the end of April 2025 decreased by 5 basis points to 2.02%, down from 2.07% in March. This decline reflects a reduction in the weighted funding cost for deposits during the month. The composite interest rate serves as an average cost of funds for banks, incorporating various interest-rate-sensitive liabilities. Historical data for this rate is available on the HKMA website, although recent calculations are based on a new framework that may affect comparability with earlier figures.
