SFC welcomes IOSCO’s statement on combatting online scams
On May 22, 2025, the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) welcomed the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) statement urging online platform providers to collaborate with regulators to combat rising online scams, particularly impersonation scams targeting retail investors. IOSCO’s statement calls for the prompt removal of fraudulent content and implementation of anti-scam measures, such as user verification. The SFC encourages platform providers to utilize alerts from its website and the newly launched IOSCO International Securities and Commodities Alerts Network (I-SCAN) to block illegal investment offerings and issue timely warnings. SFC CEO Julia Leung emphasized the need for a coordinated global approach to protect investors from cross-border scams.
