On September 23, 2025, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Guangzhou Emissions Exchange, Shenzhen Green Exchange, and Macao International Carbon Emission Exchange to enhance the carbon market and green finance ecosystem in the Greater Bay Area. This collaboration aims to explore new opportunities in carbon markets and facilitate the exchange of expertise among the participating exchanges, fostering a robust green finance framework. HKEX Group Chief Sustainability Officer Paul Chow emphasized that the partnership will help corporates achieve their net-zero goals by unlocking new opportunities in green finance and enhancing connections between mandatory and voluntary carbon markets. The initiative was launched with a seminar at the annual China Carbon Market Conference in Shanghai, focusing on innovative development in carbon markets. HKEX aims to serve as a superconnector between East and West, promoting a diverse and dynamic financial marketplace.
