Insurance groups classified as Domestic Systemically Important Insurers
On October 17, 2025, the Insurance Authority (IA) introduced a new framework for classifying Domestic Systemically Important Insurers (D-SIIs) in Hong Kong. D-SIIs are insurers whose failure could significantly disrupt the local financial system and will therefore be subject to enhanced supervisory requirements. AIA Group Limited and Prudential Corporation Asia Limited have been designated as D-SIIs, both adhering to robust standards under the IA’s group-wide supervision framework. The IA will recommend including all D-SIIs under the Financial Institutions (Resolution) Ordinance to facilitate better resolvability assessments and resolution planning. An annual assessment will be conducted to review the classifications in line with international practices. Resources: https://www.ia.org.hk/en/infocenter/press_releases/20251017.html
