The European Commission will invest €4 billion in innovative decarbonization technologies, focusing on cleantech manufacturing projects. The funds will be raised through the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). This is the fourth major call for decarbonization projects under the EU Innovation Fund, which is one of the largest funding programs for low-carbon technologies. The current call is larger due to increased revenue from the EU ETS. The funding will support projects in general decarbonization, cleantech manufacturing, and deep decarbonization pilot projects. The Commission will assess projects based on their potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, innovation, replicability, and cost efficiency. The Innovation Fund can cover up to 60% of project costs.
