Insurance Authority hosts Insurance-linked Securities Conference to promote Hong Kong as an emerging ILS domicile
The Insurance Authority (IA) hosted the first-ever Insurance-linked Securities (ILS) Conference in Hong Kong, tailored for institutional investors and professional service providers. Mr. Stephen Yiu, Chairman of the IA, emphasized the appeal of ILS as an asset class due to climate change and financial volatilities. He encouraged participants to take advantage of Hong Kong’s favorable environment for ILS issuance. Mr. Joseph Chan, Acting Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, highlighted Hong Kong’s expertise and connectivity, positioning it as an ideal platform for ILS issuance and reinforcing its status as an international insurance hub. The keynote address by Mr. Jorge Familiar, Vice President and Treasurer of the World Bank, focused on how catastrophe bonds can help developing countries mitigate the economic impacts of natural disasters. The conference featured discussions on the value proposition of the ILS market in Hong Kong, the ILS investment landscape, and a live catastrophe bond transaction roadshow. With over 100 participants and speakers from various regions, including Hong Kong, Mainland China, Asia Pacific, the United Kingdom, and the United States, the event aimed to foster collaboration and innovation in the ILS market for a more resilient future worldwide.
