The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Kelvin Wong Tin-yau as its new Chairman, effective 20 October 2024, succeeding Mr. Tim Lui, who has served for six years. Mr. Lui praised Dr. Wong’s extensive experience in capital market regulation and his previous roles with the SFC, expressing confidence in Wong’s ability to uphold the integrity of Hong Kong’s financial markets. Reflecting on his tenure, Lui noted the challenges faced, including the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions. Dr. Wong emphasized his commitment to fostering a sustainable capital market and advancing economic growth, while SFC CEO Julia Leung expressed gratitude for Lui’s leadership and optimism for the future under Wong’s chairmanship.
