A private cello tutor, Ho Ka-yeung, pleaded guilty to fraud after concealing a significant discount he received when helping a parent purchase a cello. In July 2023, Ho facilitated the purchase of a $39,000 cello, claiming it was priced at $24,300 after a discount. However, he had actually paid $18,000 for the cello through his discounted rate as a registered instructor with the supplier, Chairman Instruments. Ho kept the $6,300 price difference for himself. He was charged with fraud, and the case has been adjourned for sentencing on November 18. The ICAC reminds the public to act honestly when assisting others in financial transactions.
