Ko Chun-yin, a former foreman for a subcontractor on the Hong Kong International Airport’s Three-Runway System Project, was charged by the ICAC on January 2 for soliciting and accepting over $16,000 in bribes from three bar-benders between April 2022 and February 2023. He allegedly sought daily payments and “tea money” to secure their employment and $6,000 for assigning overtime work. The workers, fearing dismissal, reluctantly complied, though one was fired after refusing to pay. Charged with multiple counts under the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance, Ko is out on bail pending a court appearance on January 6. HCL, the subcontractor, fully cooperated with the investigation.
