Industry experts and academia explore the role of insurance in developing silver economy
The Insurance Authority (IA) hosted a panel discussion titled “Navigating the Silver Economy: Insurance Sector Opportunities in an Aging Society” at the Asian Financial Forum (AFF) on 13 January 2025, highlighting the challenges and opportunities presented by population ageing. Experts from the industry and academia explored demographic trends in Hong Kong, the insurance solutions available, and the challenges of addressing emerging needs and narrowing protection gaps locally and across borders. Mr. Clement Lau, IA’s Executive Director of Policy and Legislation, emphasized the crucial role of the insurance sector in supporting the elderly and driving the silver economy, particularly in the context of enhanced connectivity within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The discussion also covered raising insurance literacy and retirement planning awareness to foster a more sustainable and resilient society. The AFF serves as a premier platform for global leaders to exchange insights on the economy from an Asian perspective. Resources: https://www.ia.org.hk/en/infocenter/press_releases/20250113.html
