EU Invests $439 Million in Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Projects to Decarbonize Transport

The European Commission has announced a €422 million (USD $439 million) investment in 39 alternative fuel infrastructure projects to facilitate the transition to cleaner transport. The funding, part of the EU’s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF), will support initiatives such as the installation of public electric recharging stations for various vehicle types, hydrogen refueling stations, onshore power installations in ports, and electrification of airports. This investment aims to enhance the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) by significantly increasing the availability of electric and hydrogen refueling options, addressing consumer concerns about transitioning to zero-emission vehicles. The selected projects are expected to add nearly 5,000 new charging points, including 626 mega-watt chargers, thereby promoting the adoption of zero-emission fleets and contributing to environmental sustainability.
