Ex-director of electronics assembly equipment manufacturer and merchant charged by ICAC for alleged $6m bribery deal

The ICAC has charged Lau Wai-leung, a former sales director at ASMPT Hong Kong Limited, and merchant Terry Wong Yuk-yan with conspiracy to accept bribes exceeding $6 million. The charges stem from an alleged agreement between Lau and a shareholder of a technology firm, in which Lau accepted bribes for facilitating the firm’s role as a distributor of ASMPT’s electronics assembly equipment between January 2019 and January 2023. The defendants, who were released on bail, are set to appear in court for further proceedings, as the prosecution plans to transfer the case to the District Court. ASMPT has cooperated fully with the investigation and maintains a strict policy against soliciting or accepting bribes.
