On October 7, the ICAC charged four individuals, including a former senior supervisor of PARKnSHOP and three casual workers, with conspiring to defraud the supermarket chain of over $3.2 million in wages over two years by creating false attendance records for non-existent employees, referred to as “ghost workers.” The defendants—Lau Kin-pong, Tai Kin-man, Wong Wai-fung, and Wong Pak-kan—are accused of working together to mislead PARKnSHOP into believing these workers had been present at a distribution center, resulting in significant wage payments. They allegedly used a rented office and a clocking machine to fabricate attendance records. The case is set for mention at Shatin Magistrates’ Courts on October 9, with plans for prosecution to transfer it to the District Court.
