The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has announced the conclusions of its consultation on introducing a statutory scheme for real estate investment trusts (REITs) and an enhanced market conduct regime for listed collective investment schemes (CIS). The REIT Scheme Proposal aims to facilitate clear and orderly corporate restructuring and privatization for REITs, providing investor protections similar to those under the Companies Ordinance. Meanwhile, the Listed CIS Proposal seeks to extend the Securities and Futures Ordinance’s protections against market misconduct to listed CIS, including REITs. Both proposals received general support, and the SFC is preparing legislative amendments to implement them.
