Insurance intermediary charged by ICAC guilty of conspiring with policyholders over insurance claims fraud

On October 31, insurance intermediary Lalwani Jay Jerome was convicted of conspiring with two policyholders to defraud an insurer, AIA International Limited, out of over $52,000 in accident insurance claims. The Eastern Magistrates’ Court found him guilty of four counts of conspiracy to defraud after an ICAC investigation revealed that the policyholders falsely claimed injuries and submitted fraudulent medical documents. The case has been adjourned for sentencing on November 19, with Lalwani granted bail and ordered to compensate the insurer. The policyholders, who also face charges, previously pleaded guilty. The ICAC continues to work with the insurance industry to improve integrity standards and prevent corruption.
