ESMA Pushes for Digitalized Sustainability and Financial Disclosures by 2025
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has launched a consultation to digitalize sustainability and financial disclosures through the European Single Electronic Format (ESEF) to improve investor access to comparable and actionable data. Key proposals include phased implementation of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), simplified financial statement mark-ups, and regulatory adjustments to support the European Single Access Point (ESAP). Full adoption of the new standards is expected by Q3 2025, with stakeholders invited to provide feedback by March 31, 2025. The initiative aims to streamline reporting and support data-driven, sustainable investment decisions.
