The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has permanently banned Mr. Chan Ka Him, a former insurance specialist at Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong), from re-entering the industry following his conviction for insurance fraud. Chan was sentenced to 20 months in prison on February 2, 2024, for three counts of fraud and one count of attempted fraud. While promoting insurance products at SCB’s Wan Chai branch in 2019, Chan induced two clients to transfer substantial sums to a bank account connected to him under the false pretense of paying premiums. He also attempted to cancel their policies without consent. The SFC deemed Chan unfit to be a regulated person.
