Email Alert – Phishing emails related to Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) is alerting the public to a press release issued by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited regarding phishing emails that have been reported to the HKMA. A hyperlink to the press release can be found on the HKMA website. The HKMA would like to remind the public that banks do not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks that direct individuals to their websites for conducting transactions. Banks also do not request customers’ sensitive personal information, such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords, through phone calls, emails, or SMS (including embedded hyperlinks). Individuals who have provided their personal information or conducted any financial transactions in response to the suspicious emails should contact the bank using the contact information provided in the press release. Additionally, they should report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre by calling 2860 5012. It is important to take prompt action to protect oneself and report any fraudulent activities to the relevant authorities.
