U.S. DOE Launches $1.8 Billion Funding for Direct Air Capture Technology

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced up to $1.8 billion in funding to support the development of mid- to large-scale Direct Air Capture (DAC) projects under its Regional DAC Hubs program. The initiative aims to commercialize DAC technologies, capture legacy emissions, and boost economic growth. Funding is divided into infrastructure platforms, mid-scale facilities capturing 2,000-25,000 tons of CO2 annually, and large-scale facilities capturing over 25,000 tons. Building on earlier efforts, including Regional DAC Hubs in Louisiana and Texas, this funding will bridge innovation and large-scale implementation, addressing climate change while fostering economic opportunities.
